FAVORITE COVER OF ALL TIME
Looking at the The Glass Menagerie’s cover by Alvin Lustig, at first glance I could not make out what the interweaving lines were meant to signify. It all looked like just a jumble of string, or wire. After quickly processing the title (of course I’m generally drawn to the image first) I realized that the outlines were of animals, overlapping one another, and that they perfectly represented the coveted glass animal collection of the title.  It was so simple — colorless and without detail. You could see through them, like glass. The sparse design worked beautifully. That was Lustig’s genius — he perfectly incorporated the clean abstract style into a stark yet elegant cover design.
